Learn more about Zark Pottery for Sale
Born in 1855, Bringhurst found a successful career as a sculptor, but transitioned to the pottery field later in life for an unknown reason. Together with Clarence Howard and Arthur Morey, Bringhurst founded the Ozark Pottery Company in 1906.
Little can be found about the early history of the company, and the pieces to come out of Ozark pottery are often bafflingly different in design. Some are earthenware, others high-fired. Some feature slip decorations, while others low-relief. There were countless collaborations, and often new lines were introduced by potters that shifted in and out of the company at will. One thing that ties all Zark pottery together, thankfully, is the mark. Most Zark pottery bears an either incised or impressed “Zark” in either a standard or boxy script. Often, additional decorator initials can be found on the base.
