William Henry Joseph Breuer (1881-1883)

William Henry Joseph Breuer was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 10, 1860. He studied art in Buffalo, New York, and in 1880 moved to Cincinnati, Ohio where he studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy. One of the earliest of the Rookwood Pottery decorators, he decorated pieces there from 1881 through 1883.

The mark "W.H.B" can be found on tooled and die-incised pieces from Rookwood Pottery's formative years. The work appears similar to pieces attributed to Fanny Auckland. He eventually moved to San Francisco, California where he spent many years painting landscapes. He passed away in San Francisco on February 19,1932. Collector interest in these pieces is considered to be below average.
